CHEAT’S OSHAF
Serves 4, Ready in 25 Minutes
Oshaf is a traditional Albanian dessert, hailing from the historic town of Gjirokaster in the South. It’s usually made with sheep’s milk however as this is tricky to find when I’m in London, I’ve created a cheat’s version that I can enjoy at home too!
I love how the sweet figs cut through the silky tang of the baked yoghurt in this dish and with the warmth of cinnamon, it’s such a comforting dessert that is perfect for cold evenings.
INGREDIENTS
450g Sheep yoghurt
1x Tin (397g) condensed milk
175g dried figs, chopped
Ground cinnamon
METHOD
Heat the oven to 180 degrees.
Whisk together the yoghurt and condensed milk in a mixing bowl.
Add the chopped figs into the bowl and squash them into the milk mix with your hands to break down the figs into the liquid.
Pour the milk mixture into heatproof ramekins and bake in the oven for 20 minutes or until the mixture bakes and the top begins to turn golden.
Once the oshaf is out of the oven, take a pinch of cinnamon and sprinkle this across the top of the dessert in a criss-cross pattern just before serving.
You can stir the cinnamon into the oshaf before tucking in.
